Ms. Wedding Wows

Dear Philippa,

I've been invited to an old college friend's out of town wedding and I'm trying to decide whether I should go alone or take someone. I'm thinking of asking an ex- girlfriend because there won't be any expectations other than to have a good time. On the other hand I'm hoping that this certain fantastic woman will show up alone. I've had the hots for her since I saw her in class back when I was in school.

Dear Ed,

Are you a man who likes to make a safe bet, somewhat cautious, but with a wild fantasy life? Or are you secretly a wild-man actually planning to rumple a few coats with some hot woman in the clothes closet at the wedding?

The best time I ever had at someone's wedding was when I went alone and the worst time I had at someone else's wedding was when I went alone. In other words, the situation is what you make it and how you choose to deal with all the personalities and situations you have no control over. Maybe your dream woman will be there with the love of her life, an old boyfriend, or alone and available.

Whether you go with your old girlfriend or alone you will get an opportunity to talk to your fantasy woman and test the waters. If you go with your girlfriend you could plan to see your fantasy woman at another time. If you're there alone your dream lady may be the one to pull you into the coat closet. Wedding parties, wine, and people dynamics can bring out the most unexpected behavior.

It seems your best bet is to be prepared to have a great time without any expectations. One thing is for sure, when you're somewhere just having a good time, acting self-assured on your own or with someone else; you're immediately more attractive to other people. One final note regarding crushes is that reality often pales in comparison to fantasy. Remember that whether it's at the wedding or back home, there is a fantastic woman who is looking for you.
